After a uniquely distinguished career, Edward H. Johnson retired from the Georgia Court of Appeals on December 31, 2010. Judge Johnson joined the Firm in 2011 as an attorney Of Counsel and looks forward to returning to the practice of law after serving on the bench for approximately 30 years. Judge Johnson was born in Newnan, Georgia. At Georgia State University, he earned a B.A. in History, with honors, and later earned a Master’s degree in history with special interest in American Legal History. Judge Johnson received his Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University School of Law and earned his LL.M. at the University of Virginia School of Law. Judge Johnson entered into the private practice of law in 1974. He served as legal counsel to the Lt. Governor of Georgia in 1976. From 1977-80, Judge Johnson served as a State Senator in the 34th District. He served as a Judge in the State Court of Fulton County from 1980 – 1988 and was elected in 1989 as a Judge in the Superior Court of Fulton County where he served until 1992. On February 28, 1992, Judge Johnson was sworn in as the 59th Judge of the Court of Appeals of Georgia. Over the next 19 years, Judge Johnson worked tirelessly to improve the administration of justice. Judge Johnson resides in Newton County with his family. He has many hobbies outside of the law.
