W. Greogry Pope

W. Gregory PopeW. Gregory Pope is a native of Covington, Georgia.  After graduating as Valedictorian of his high school class in 1989, Greg graduated from the University of Georgia in 1993, with a B.B.A. in Finance, with honors, and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia, Lumpkin School of Law, in 1996. While at UGA law school, Greg was a member of the Moot Court Board and Intrastate Moot Court Team. Greg began his practice at a large insurance defense law firm in Atlanta. Since establishing his own practice in Covington in 1998, Greg has concentrated his practice the area of civil litigation with a particular focus in workers’ compensation and personal injury cases. He formed The Pope Law Firm, P.C. in 2000.

Greg has been a speaker at several Continuing Legal Education seminars.  In 1998, Greg was co-counsel and author of the winning brief in the case of Georgia Self-Insurers Guaranty Trust Fund v. Thomas, 269 Ga. 560, 501 S.E.2d 818 (1998), a Georgia Supreme Court decision regarding post-accident drug testing. In 2007, Greg was co-counsel in the case of Sellers v. Burrowes, 283 Ga. App. 505, 642 S.E.2d 145 (2007), a Georgia Court of Appeals decision ordering a trial judge to give the Plaintiff a new trial due to the fact that the court failed to strike a juror who said during jury selection that she did not believe she could be impartial. The Sellers case is frequently cited by attorneys and judges all over the State of Georgia for the proposition that the trial judge’s primary duty is to ensure the selection of a fair and impartial jury.

Greg served as a Magistrate Judge in Newton County from 2000 to 2006.  He is admitted to practice before the United States District Court, Northern District of Georgia, the Georgia Supreme Court, the Georgia Court of Appeals and all Georgia State and Superior Courts.  Greg is a member of the Georgia Bar Association, the Alcovy Bar Association, the Newton County Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Association and the Lawyers Club of Atlanta.  Greg is past president of the Newton County Bar Association, the Rotary Club of Covington and the Bulldog Club of Newton County.  He and his wife, Liz, reside in Covington with their two children.  Greg and Liz are active members of the First United Methodist Church of Covington.
